I assume there's a lot of bud gals and guys out there, but what other beer do people like?

Geez, I hope not...I generally try to discourage those who only drink swill like Bud/Miller/Coors from joining this tribe...but that's just the beer snob in me talking. :)
My personal favorite would be tough to pick, but in general I love just about any good, strong, hoppy west coast IPA (India Pale Ale), many of which aren't even available outside the west coast.

Teach me then! I live in Kansas, I'm 21 but have been drinkin' for....a while (compliments of my big sis). Anyway, I love beer. Every kind I've had I've enjoyed. And now I'm old enough to try what I wanna try, not just what other people buy me. What do you suggest?

Since you're from KC (I am too) you should try boulevard cause this is the only place you can get it (I think...) It's my favorite. Boulevard wheat with a lemon is great!

As the lady below mentions, I have heard good things about Boulevard beers. Also, Chicago's Goose Island beers (www.gooseisland.com/beers/beers.html)
should be available in KC. They have been around for many years now, and make excellent brews (their Honkers Pale and IPAs are the ones I remember most fondly)

Yes Goose Island and Boulevard beers are both good choices. My local favorite (in Minnesota) is Schell's - but I'm not sure how far their distribution is...

I wouldnt drink bud or similar beers even if you paid me! *HURL* pisswater swill imho.

I am a beer snob and damn right i have a right to be, I brew my own. So those I love.
There are so many good beers out there with amazing charcteristics and flavor.

Honestly I really dont know if I could pick a favorite. There are some great ESB (extra special bitters), Pale ales, IPA's, and not to mention the stouts, porters and so forth. Gosh. So many styles, so many favorites.

Is Guinness a good or bad beer? (I like all, so this is new to me)

it's not bad... but there is better...

check out some other stouts and porters; it's worth the 4 bucks... especially if you find your new favorite beer!

if you dont like it, just take it to the bathroom with you, and eliminate what you dont wanna drink (leave some to finish in public, they might notice a full then empty beer); the starving alcoholics in china won't mind... i promise you.

    Alesmith's Wee Heavy Scotch
    Moose Drool Brown Ale
    Scapegoat Pale Ale
    Stone Pale Ale

and if I have to drink mass-produced swill...okay, no. I won't drink mass produced swill. Fizzy yellow beer is for wussies, true enough.

One of my favorites is Stone Brewing Company's Arrogant Bastard Ale. It is VERY flavorful, Jessica. Very good, lots of flavor. Most Americans won't like it.

I go through phases for preferred style. My consistent favorite brewerys are Unibrow, Avery, Rogue, Stone, North Coast, and Dog Fish.
Some beer I've had recently that wow'd me - Avery's Kaiser Oktoberfest, Avery's 12th Annivesry release Saison, and Dog Fish Raison D'Etre...pardon my spelling.
And I drank a lot of Full Sail Session Lager during this hot Houston summer.

MMM, I love Dogfish Head!!! It was the first beer I encountered out east that really soothed my longing for New Belgium beers (not sold east of the Ohio River). 1554 Belgian Black Ale had been my favorite since I discovered that not all beers are vile. Raison D'Etre did restore my...well...raison d'etre. Also very happy with Young's Chocolate Stout. And of course there are several local brewpubs in Philly I'm pleased with.

But I guess nothing will ever compare to my first love...

My staple beer is Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. I like it for it's medium hoppiness and crisp fruit tones. It is not overly sweet or overly hoppy.

I have gone through phases. I used to like the hoppiest beer I could fine, and often liked Anderson Valley Hoppin Otter.

As far as amber beers, which I often find overly sweet and kind of flat tasting, I prefer Anderson Valley Boont Amber.

One of my favorite Pale Ales that I haven't seen in a long time is Bear Republic XP Pale Ale. I've only seen in it the larger bottles, but thought it was excellent!!

I live in Northern California, and location greatly influences the choices of beer available.

    Best of luck!

Ok, I had to join this tribe after reading this thread *lol*

I have lived in Chico for the last 6 years and have grown to love and adore almost anything Sierra Nevada. The beauty is that not only is it totally fresh and insanely cheap here, but we get varieties no one else does :) A 6-pack is $4.99 for the regulars, $5.99 for some of the seasonals (namely Celebration and Big Foot), and at the bar on any given night you can get a pint for as little as $2.00, with a selection of usually 4-5 to pick from (and I don't mean the usual 4 bottled). So at times it's actually *cheaper* than a pint of Bud which just cracks me up.

My favorite beer on a day to day basis is SN Pale Ale, and when the season is right their Oktoberfest (especially this year!!) and Harvest. YUMMY!!! So I hate to say it, but it's challenging trying other beers when SN is so cheap and readily available...

I'm a big fan of most of the Black Sheep Ales (found them in the UK)
    www.blacksheepbrewery.com/

and ok - yeah -- they got great labels and that adds to the fun - but it's good stuff to boot!

but hard to find here .. so, i usually go with a Stella Artois OR Magic Hat (again -- ummm ... that label art might be working on me ;)

My favorite beer of all time (so far):

    Boulder Creek Brewery's Winter Warmer

Picking up two growlers of it this weekend before they run out of it... with the added bonus of being able to use the containers for brewing my next batch of mead! Yay!

    All of the above.

i think bud has it's place -- i like it drinking it on hikes, water rafting trips, house boating excursions, etc....spillage is gonna happen & i don't care since it's bud.

lately, i've been drooling over boddingtons beer -- it's engrish, smooth bodied and has a creamy head. goes great with fish and chips!

I really miss living in Boston where every bar had Harpoon on tap. I'm not even real particular about which one! They are all good. I'm not a fan of IPA though, just in general. I have friends that have actually paid me to bring Harpoon IPA back to CA for them when I go to Boston to visit. Good stuff. And the festivals! So much fun. I digress.

Other faves: Chimay, Pyramid Hefewiesen, most beers from Fat Tire, Guiness (breakfast)and the old standby Amstel Light. I actually prefer Amstel, but it's hard to find in the states.

mmmmm beer. And its almost 5!

Killian's Irish Red...I used to drink Yuengling in PA but since I moved to AZ they don't have it out here. Black and Tan, Guinness with a shot of vanilla is really good. I also like the taste of Amber Bock.

Gosh, there are so many to like... our local brewery Eldos makes a very fine Vienna Lager that I just adore. A fun one to drink is Arrogant Bastard Ale... Another fav is La Fin Du Monde.

I know it's already been said but bud is vile...

New belgium's Skinny Dip is my favorite right now. I'm also into Guinness, Newcastle, Chimay, Racer 5, Poppy Jasper, and anything Spaten.

Skinny Dip isn't bad, although my new favorite (for the moment at least!) is Sierra Nevada's ESP. It's their Pale Ale recipe, but made with fresh green hops!! Oh man, is that ever tasty!!!!!
