    Me!

But Guinness sometimes I cannot stomach, as it can be bitter to my tastebuds.

so what do you drink when not consuming "the beer you've been practicing for" (aka guinness?)

Good stuff ... Stella Artois, Red Tail Ale, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Miller Draft. Corona tastes like water to me. Talking about water ... the other night during dinner I reached for my frosted glass and drank heartily from it and -- gulp -- it was water! See what happens when you leave glasses of water and beer nearby. And I've always loved the taste of water. But this time, not so much.

what is the fascination with stella? i really don't get it.
i was with you on the others, till you said you liked miller, but corona tastes like water... ok, miller doesn't taste like water, but not my fave unless limited to that or bud. corona is a light beer (in all senses--cept calories.) but sometimes i want something light and inoffensive (other than water.)

easy way to tell beer from water (w/o tasting): beer has head. if the water has a head DON'T DRINK IT!!! LOL... same goes for flat beer.

nope - I've heard of it but never tried it. I stumbled across an apricot ale a couple of weeks ago that was pretty yummy - perfect for dessert on a hot summer night down here ;)

    me me me!

Last night was CHristmas in July beer fest at my favorite bar. .lots of sweet, dark, aged beers. I loved everything I had - Heavyweight Old Salty 2002, Dogfish Snowblower (a light, sour golden ale of sorts), and I just had to get the Gonzo Imperial Porter cuz I haven't seen it anywhere else yet.

I like summer wheat beers, and golden ales and tripels, but overall I love me some great bocks, porters, stouts and barleywines.

is fat tire really considered a dark ale? i wouldn't think so, amber yes but dark, we're talking baron schwartz and black butte porter.

nope, your right - it's an amber. Bars down here don't sell dark brews and I'm hestitant to buy a 6 pack of something I haven't tried (not that there is a wide selection in 6 packs here either), so I stick with something I *know* I'll drink.

mmm...bocks and summer wheat - don't throw rocks at me or anything, but Coors microbrew makes a decent summer wheat called Harvest Moon (I think), I think...orange and coriander give it a bit of personality.

        it's blue moon.

at least you recognize that it's made by coors. i guess it's not bad, but there are so many wonderful true belgian or belgian style wheats.

fat tire is a poor excuse for an amber...

widmer's drop top amber, much better, or there's Red Hook's ESB, or Gorden Birsch's Marzen.

people remember she's not in a metro area--her choices are limited.

i'm not metro either... just west coast.

but just don't ever believe that fat tire is a good beer just because it's all you can get....

Loft by the same brewing co. is pretty good though. and I'll bet Dos XX Amber is available everywhere... Dos Eckies? have no clue how to spell it, but it's a better amber.

LOL, I think the attachment I've got to Fat Tire is more sentimental than anything else - a dear friend of mine was the brewery manager for about 5 years....used to send me care packages of beer while I was in college!

Fat Tire was one of the most popular beers on Phish Tour.. people'd buy cases of it and sell it in the parking lot.. that and Magic Hat #9. RUmor has it, it used to be an awesome brew, and something happened at the brewery where they expanded or tweaked the recipe and it went downhill. I think they just put all their concentration on Belgian styles (given that it is New Belgium, and all).

They're definitely one of my favorite breweries but I just can't stand FT. Loft is quite nice, as is Sunshine Wheat, 1554, Abbey, La Folie..

you're right about the change in Fat Tire... it used to be good...

i figured it got bought out or something.

I would have never guessed Blue Moon was made by Coors!

While usually I like beer that drinks like I should be using a fork, I was charmed into trying a sampler glass of it. Its nice with a slice of orange for dessert. :-)

I adore dark beers, but as a recent devotee of Ninkasi, Tenenit, and all the other Goddesses of Beer... I'm not certain that my love of a dark brew is because I prefer them, or because I just haven't happened onto anything I like better, yet.

I find that hard to believe, but am open to the possibility. :-)
